I thought it might be uncomfortable to wear the original device at night so I installed it in a stardard sleeping mask. It works perfectly and even has a little pouch to easily reach in and switch it on and off. You can press the button through the mask too if you want. It's not rocket science but I thought people might want to see this variation to the mask.

The first night I used the mask it worked perfectly. I dreamt I was walking through a hallway and the lights above my head started blinking on and off. I looked up at them and then thought, "Oh yeah, it's the mask!" Then I woke up. The key is obviously to take control from that point.

Unfortunately I was on a plane a few months ago and accidentally left the mask in the seat pocket! That's why these images are poor quality. They're from my cell phone and are the only ones I have. I'm sure the flight attendant didn't expect to find a "brain..."
Read the rest of this post

Another iphone nes vinyl overlay in the key of Nate

I loved natetrue's http://cre.ations.net/creation/vinyl-overlay-for-tactile-feel-on-iphone-nes-emulator creation, but the mask openings for buttons didn't feel right. Since the vinyl doesn't impede the touch input, I tried a small bump in the center of the Dpad, and also over A and B. The bumps act like home-key bumps on your computer keyboard. This was great (read as high score in Defender) but the small vinyl buttons kept sliding around. I tried soapy water (and considered rubbing the iphone on my head to develop a stronger static charge) but couldn't find a reliable and removable adhesive. I think a drop of candle wax might do the trick, but I have an aversion to holding a burning candle to any $500 object that isn't a very expensive birthday cake.

In the end I settled on a full screen overlay with the above mentioned buttons self adhering to control spots. Vinyl sticks to vinyl great. This gave me good control, and buttons remain..."
Read the rest of this post

It runs on top of all of the apps (in the lower-right corner) and lets you switch apps quickly and easily.

Dock 2.0 is completely redone. Now it lives in the bottom-right corner of your screen (disguised as a little sunburst) and waits for you to drag it up from the corner. Drag your finger onto the screen from off the corner and choose an app. This works from within any app, minus the iPod and YouTube for some reason.

Features
- Always accessible from nearly all applications
- Switch applications without having to go back to the Home screen
- Take an iPhone screenshot and save it to Photos
- Pretty graphics

2.05: Can take screen shots (saves to Photos), improved icon look
2.04: Uh, really fixed broken-phone bug this time
2.03: Fixed broken-phone bug for Installer.app folks
2.02: Better animation and revised placement of the "selected app" icon.

Check out the video..."
Read the rest of this post

The touchscreen is a flat piece of glass. You can't feel your way around on this phone like you can with most phones (and all gaming controllers).

Playing NES on the iPhone, then, is a lesson in inevitability - your thumbs will eventually drift from the buttons and you won't hit the button you need at the right time and you'll die in the game.

What's a man to do? Well, if you have any excess vinyl laying around (say, from an http://cre.ations.net/creation/cheap-underwater-digital-camera-enclosure underwater camera enclosure), or if you want to buy it from a craft store, you have all you need to make a tactile overlay for your screen.

The vinyl is perfect because if you press it against the glass it adheres like a decal (because decals are made from the same material!).
