For this project, I have used an ATMEL AT89S52 microcontroller which is based upon the 8052 core.

I have used a column of 8 LEDs for creating the POV effect. The code for this is quite simple and so I have not bothered to post it here. You can post a comment if you want it.

Initially it was not working properly because the delay I had used between lighting up each column was about 40 milliseconds.

Then after some searching on the net for similar POV toys led me to believe 10 milliseconds might be a good delay.

And sure enough, 10 milliseconds made it work. I guess that it is the optimum speed taking into consideration the speed of the moving arm.

So here it is, my latest POV toy. Comments are welcome!
Below are some time progression snaps that I took when I was making...&quot;<p><a href='http://cre.ations.net/creation/my-own-pov-toy-for-fun'>Read the rest of this post</a></p>

The only disadvantage I found in the Arduino board was that the PORTD and PORTB sockets have a small gap in between them. Because of this gap, I am not able to evenly fit male-female socket pairs. As a result, I cannot make small home-made Arduino shields using general purpose PCBs.

It is a Fujitsu Lifebook P1120. An 800MHz Transmetta Crusoe processor, 256Mb of ram directly soldered to the board, and ATi Radeon Moble. It was barely powerful enough to play a decent quality movie, but it could play one for almost 3 hours, with the volume up all the way. It had built-in wifi, 30gb hard drive, super-battery life, and a touch screen. I will not buy another laptop without a touch screen.
I don't know where the before pictures are, I think I took them right before my parents used my camera. Who knows.
Anyways, I didn't like the greyish purple color of it, so I decided to paint it.
Krylon Fusion for the blue, and Krylon smei-gloss black primer, as well as more than 20 coats of Krylon clearcoat(can you tell I like Krylon yet?)
I took it apart, and it wasn't the first time, either. I sanded it down, and cleaned it all...&quot;<p><a href='http://cre.ations.net/creation/laptop-painting-is-fun'>Read the rest of this post</a></p>

I need a lot of cables with me in my laptop bag when I travel, mostly to connect up portable hard drives and other miscellaneous gadgets.

The problem I was having was that all the cables would tangle together, so I'd have to pick up a big wad of cable and extract the one I needed every time.

To some degree, rolling up the cables in wide loops (as you can see inside the bags here) helped. But they still got tangled every once in a while, and my bag did not have enough pockets to give each cable its own.

So finally I got fed up with it all, and decided to make some more pockets. Since the backpack pockets were made of cloth I figured that it might be good to use cloth.

But sewing is tedious without a sewing machine. So I looked around my room and behold, a pinkish anti-static bag was lying there from a shipment of PICs I had just received. It's a thin-ish plastic that still feels somewhat strong. Ok, so say you upgraded to 1.1.3 and now regret doing so and miss your third party apps and the only way to jailbreak a 1.1.3 is to start with a 1.1.2 jailbroken iphone but how do you get back to 1.1.2? It is possible to downgrade and upgrade again and still have the phone capabilities of this semi-magical device and in this guide, i will show you how. Take heed, i am not responsible for any complications that may arise with your particular iphone AKA bricked. Also, this process is lengthy and should not be performed on iphones with out of the box 1.1.3. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK&lt; IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MISHAPS!!!!!!! But you shouldnt worry because if you follow my instructions you should, in theroy, be ok =) If at any point in this you iphone goes into recovery then just launch independence. I thought it might be uncomfortable to wear the original device at night so I installed it in a stardard sleeping mask. It works perfectly and even has a little pouch to easily reach in and switch it on and off. You can press the button through the mask too if you want. It's not rocket science but I thought people might want to see this variation to the mask.

The first night I used the mask it worked perfectly. I dreamt I was walking through a hallway and the lights above my head started blinking on and off. I looked up at them and then thought, &quot;Oh yeah, it's the mask!&quot; Then I woke up. The key is obviously to take control from that point.

Unfortunately I was on a plane a few months ago and accidentally left the mask in the seat pocket! That's why these images are poor quality. They're from my cell phone and are the only ones I have. I'm sure the flight attendant didn't expect to find a &quot;brain...&quot;<p><a href='http://cre.ations.net/creation/lucid-dreamer-retrod-with-a-sleeping-mask'>Read the rest of this post</a></p>

Instead of cramming everything into an existing controller, I created a custom circuit board to replace the original. This has several benefits, namely, that the controllers Sega produced had several revisions of circuit boards on the inside, but the same model number on the outside. The first version could only fit if you used a controller with a surface mount board. This revision is compatible with all models. I made this controller a few months ago, so this guide is made entirely after the fact, thus picture choice is limited.
Here is a zip containing the code and images to make the board: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/4/3/951084/Genesis%20Controller.zip

It turns out, as a programmer, you can turn the 4 blue LEDs on and off at will, so you don't have to display power levels or controller number, you could do other things, as well.

Like a clock: the Python script acquires connections to the four controllers, finds the time (in this case, a 24-hour representation, so, 14:47), converts each digit to binary (which seems a little weird, but it's called 'Binary Coded Decimal', and it's quasi-useful and easier for humans to read than a full-on binary representation of the time), and sends the binary representation of the digits out to the controllers.

So:
